Contact the Elderly: Tea, cake and lots of love

Our relationship with Contact the Elderly started, aptly, with Valentine’s Day 2017. We wanted to do something a bit different and, with a holiday all about love, what better way to celebrate than to find a charity that’s all about spreading love and kindness in the community?

We quickly discovered Contact the Elderly, a UK charity which does just that. They use two of our favourite things - tea and laughter - to provide a vital friendship link to the older members of our communities, by organising monthly tea parties for people over 75 who live alone. This simple method is incredibly effective for encouraging socialisation and combatting loneliness as it gives elderly people a regular change of scenery and opportunities for conversation and laughter. Since their first tea party in 1965, Contact the Elderly has supported more than 100,000 lonely older people and, thanks to the dedication of staff and thousands of volunteers, they are able to take thousands of older people to afternoon tea every month.

Throughout February 2017 we donated 15% of our sales to help continue their vital and lovely work. But our relationship didn’t end there. We think the charity is so unique and worthwhile that we wanted to find a more continuous way to support and raise awareness for them. So now, every time you buy our delicious Lemon & Rosemary Body Butter, we’ll be donating 10% of its sale to Contact the Elderly. That way, we can all spread a bit of love in the community whilst also treating ourselves - and looking after the planet too. Yay!
